The lily family is a varied and large group of plants that usually grow from rhizomes, fleshy roots or bulbs.  They have a stout flowering stem.  The flowers are symmetric with 6 tepals (a mix between 3 sepals and 3 petals), 6 stamens and an ovary with 3 parts.  The leaves have parallel veins that usually clasp the stem, can be basal, can alternate or be whorled.
